Django Soulo
Saturday • Sep 21st
5pm
Many moons ago, django joined with songwriter john freeburn, now known as long gone john, along with the ultimately unique specimen that is pianist david langevin to form the vermont "folkalicious" fellowship known as tallgrass getdown. Django played drums, sang vocals, and played trombone with tggd. Tallgrass has played all the hottest venues in new england as well as becoming local favorites at nectar's, frendly gathering music festival, and otis mountain get down. In 2013 they won runners-up for best unsigned band in vermont in the seven days magazine ‘daisy’ awards. Django has had the honor of sharing the stage with acts such as yarn, spirit family reunion, shakey graves, vt's own waylon speed and even taj mahal. During the winter of 2015 due to a hiatus with tggd as well as his new motivation from sobriety, django recorded his first record ‘we live on’ released fall 2015. Recorded at green room studios by vermont producer colin mccaffrey and a slew of special guests. ‘we live on’ is dedicated to max weaver, a fellow musician, songwriter, and good friend who passed away in 2013 at the age of 27. Django released his most recent record self-titled django soulo in may of 2017 while living in southern oregon. This album was recorded at pacifica studios, located in williams, oregon. Pacifica, also the name of the property, is a beautiful lush land that was formerly owned by steve miller of the steve miller band (miller built the studio as well). The album was completed with the help of studio owner, record producer, and engineer dennis dragon. Dragon and django became good friends and that is reflected by the final product of this album. Unfortunately, 4 short months after the release of this album dennis dragon took his own life at pacifica. He was a brilliant man and an essential part of django koenig’s music. “it is my hope that anyone who listens to my newest album, will understand the power that dennis dragon had to make the proper decisions in the studio as well as always keep things light, free, and in a forward motion. As a producer that is such a delicate balance and such an ideal balance for musicians like me. Dragon was troubled by the state of our world and needed peace within his heart. He lived in this world by his own rules and similarly, he left this world by his own rules. I hope you have found peace dennis, you deserve it old friend. Catch ya around the bend. ” - django koenig django currently lives in plainfield, vermont with his mother, axie noyes. He works part-time at his father, ben koenig's bookstore, the country bookshop, and enjoys spending time with his friends and especially his girlfriend, alix. He has performed on either drum kit or guitar in several bands including: tallgrass getdown, the eames brothers, red hot juba, lesley grant, tommy alexander, jenny jahlee & the menagerie, erin cassels-brown, christine malcolm, cookies hot club, and yestrogen.
